Class 1 Mathematics Day Wise Lesson Plan on Shapes

Shapes

Learning Objectives:
To enable the students to….
Identify and name basic two-dimensional shapes.
Understand the concept of sides and corners/vertices of shapes.
Understand and identify basic three-dimensional shapes (cube, sphere, cylinder, cone).
Recognize the real-life objects that resemble these shapes.
Understand and describe the positional words related to shape.
Identify and describe the spatial relationships between shapes.
Classify shapes based on their attributes (e.g., number of sides, corners).
Recognize patterns in shape attributes.

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify and name basic two-dimensional shapes (circle, square, triangle, rectangle) and count their sides and corners.

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify and name basic three-dimensional shapes (cube, sphere, cylinder, cone) and recognize objects that resemble these shapes.
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to classify shapes based on their attributes and recognize patterns in shape attributes.

Introduction for the lesson:

Begin the lesson by showing real-life objects that represent different shapes (e.g., a clock for a circle, and a window for a square).
Ask students to identify the shapes they see and discuss their characteristics (e.g., round for a circle, straight lines for a square).
By showing real-life objects that represent different three-dimensional shapes (e.g., a dice for a cube, an orange for a sphere).
Ask students to identify the shapes they see and discuss their characteristics (e.g., a cube has six faces, and a sphere is round).
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to classify shapes based on their attributes and recognize patterns in shape attributes.

Pre-requisite knowledge:

Counting Skills: Students should have a basic understanding of numbers and be able to count from 1 to 10 or higher.
Basic Vocabulary:
Students should have a basic vocabulary of common objects and their names.
This includes objects such as balls, books, tables, chairs, clocks, etc.
Vocabulary related to position and direction, such as up, down, top, bottom, left, right, etc., is also useful.

Language Development:

Students should have basic language skills to understand and communicate simple instructions and questions. They should be able to follow verbal directions and express their ideas or observations.
Recognition of Basic Shapes:
It is beneficial for students to have prior exposure to basic shapes, such as a circle, squares, triangles, and rectangles.
Students should be able to recognize and name these shapes.

Content/Explanation:
Day:1,2,3
Display a chart paper with the names and pictures of the four basic shapes: circle, square, triangle, and rectangle.
Go through each shape, emphasizing its unique characteristics (e.g., a circle has no corners, a square has four equal sides and corners).
Show examples of objects or pictures representing each shape and ask students to identify the shape and count its sides and corners.
Engage students in a discussion about where they can find these shapes in their environment (e.g., circle in a clock, square in a book).

Day:4,5,6

Display a paper with the names and pictures of the four basic three-dimensional shapes: cube, sphere, cylinder, and cone.
Go through each shape, emphasizing its unique characteristics (e.g., a cube has six faces that are all squares, a cylinder has two circular faces and a curved surface).
Show examples of objects or pictures representing each shape and ask students to identify the shape and discuss its characteristics.
Engage students in a discussion about where they can find these shapes in their environment (e.g., cube in a dice, cylinder in a can).

Day:7,8,9
Engage students in a hands-on activity where they arrange shapes in different spatial relationships using manipulatives.

Day:10,11,12
Review the attributes of the basic two-dimensional shapes discussed earlier (circle, square, triangle, rectangle).
Provide a set of shape cards to each student or group.
Instruct students to sort and classify the shapes based on their attributes, such as the number of sides or corners.
Discuss the patterns or similarities they observe in the shape attributes.

Summary/Recapitulation:
Provide students with shape-related worksheets to reinforce their learning.
Encourage students to ask questions and clarify any doubts they may have.
